Messages:
Celebrating
the Centenary of the Maiden Voyage of
RMS MAURETANIA, a chapter of Humfrey Jordan's 'Mauretania', describing
the voyage, was transmitted by UK Mauretania Comics artists
Chris Reynolds and Paul Harvey to New York artists Ben Katchor
and Terry Marks.
The
Mauretania was the longest-ever holder of the famous transatlantic
speed record, the Blue Riband. Built in Newcastle, she sailed
the line between Britain and the New World completely successfully
for twenty-five years. "On that November evening the
Mauretania untied from the Prince's Landing Stage just after
7.30. The weather promised well." Humfrey Jordan: Mauretania
- Landfalls and Departures of Twenty-Five Years.
